Last
week was extremely busy. I'm involved with a project
that is aimed at improving tourism here locally. I hardly
ever leave the office (some folks say I'm a hermit),
but during about six hours of meetings and presentations
on Thursday I managed to get three good design / promotion
/ networking leads. One a low - mid - range five figure
gig (fixing a network for a guy that has seven convenience
stores). So I guess I'm going to get out more often,
and maybe you should too. We'll be dedicating our October
Issues to ways you can increase your sales this holiday
season.

Increasing Sales - part 1
+++++++++++++++++
In
October we're going to be talking about how to increase
your sales. Here is some things we'll cover.
Part
1 - Give them a second opportunity.
Part 2 - Increase your prices.
Part 3 - Creating a follow up plan.
Part 4 - Check out sales
Believe
it or not, everyone doesn't buy something the first
time they visit your site or have some kind of contact
with you. So if they don't buy something then we at
least want to be able to contact them again and/or want
them to find something they need so they will bookmark
our site and come back again. There are several ways
to do this, and some of them are listed below, along
with some links for further study.
1.
Start a newsletter.

2.
Have a contest.

3.
Start a message board.

4.
Create an autoresponder - this can have free details
about your product, or information that your targeted
audience may be interested in.

Newbie Guide Part 3

You
now should have narrowed your niche down (or expanded)
it. You also have a market without having too much competition.
You don't have a product yet, and we aren't going to
think about one this week. This week you'll begin to
hunt down where your future customers hang out.
If
you missed out on our first two lessons you can find
them in the links below.

Using
the keywords that you found in part 2, use google and
type in those search terms and begin to visit the top
10 or 20 sites that are listed for each word.
Prepare
a spreadsheet or word doc with the following columns
-
Keyword - Website URL - focus of the site - products
they are selling - some product prices - do they have
a forum/links page- email contact info - notes.
So
checking out my keywords for fly fishing - I would search
first for learn how to fly fish -
Keyword
- learn how to fly fish
Website URL - http://www.schoolofflyfishing.com/
focus of the site - selling courses (main focus)
products they are selling - online and off-line courses,
CD roms, books.
some product prices - usually below $100
do they have a forum - no
links page - no
email contact info - contact page
notes - nice site - has a free online course - add this
to list of stuff to do to take the course.
Then
go to the next one - this is time consuming, but you
will start to get a feel for your audience, what they
are buying, how much they are willing to pay, and finding
targeted places to advertise later on. You don't have
to do it all in a day, but you can do it for an hour
or two a day. Make sure to visit the forums for sites
that have them, post an answer to a question if you
can, make sure to create a forums category in your favorites,
and save all the forums you find there.
Business
basics -
Now
is the time to start getting your business setup.
1. Call your local city govt. offices and ask them if
you need any licenses.
2. Start to think about a name for your company. You
want to do some research for possible trademark infringement
of the name. As you're thinking of the name, think of
some good names that will relate to your keywords.
