This
year we're going to search our archives for some golden
oldies. Articles we published in 2000 that are still
relevant today.

Our
happiness depends on the habit of mind we cultivate.
So practice happy thinking every day. Cultivate the
merry heart, develop the happiness habit, and life will
become a continual feast.

Creating
A Database - The Basics
+++++++++++++++++++
This
month's articles are all about how to build databases
to help your business run smoother. Last week we talked
about some off the shelf solutions for databases.
http://www.blitzpromotions.com/blitz196.htm
This
week we'll start building a follow up database. Next
week we'll finish it and then we'll work on a customer
database.
For
our project we'll be using Access 2002. We also learned
a lot ourselves from the following site - you should
take some time and read their tutorial first - then
continue with the lesson.
http://www.fgcu.edu/support/office2000/access/begin.html
1.
Open Access 2002
2.
Select File > New > Database - then name it.
3.
We then want to Create a table using the Design wizard.
What we want to use this database for is a follow up
manager. When someone calls us or emails us for a quote
or for more information, we'll add them here.
4.
We then choose the fields that we want to use from the
samples.
5.
We then add data in our database, this sample record
will help us to play with our database a bit.
So
far the database is useless - now we want to actually
put it to work. So we want to create some forms. A form
can be used for gathering information or inputting records.
We created one to make it easier to add our followups
by using the following guide.
http://www.fgcu.edu/support/office2000/access/forms.html
Next
week we'll be adding function to the database and also
making it 'look' better.
